If you look up Cathy Frank's public profile on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's website, you will see that the St. Thomas, Ont. doctor is working under a restricted medical licence.
But what you won't see is the reason why.
The obstetrician-gynecologist has made an agreement with the college - an "undertaking" - not to do gynecological or obstetrical surgery unless as part of a remediation program.
What's not mentioned is that Frank is at the centre of 60 malpractice lawsuits and 50 complaints to the college. Allegations include: fracturing a baby's skull with forceps during delivery and leaving him developmentally disabled; removing patients' ovaries when less intrusive options were available; and damaging organs and tissues while performing hysterectomies.
Frank denies fracturing the baby's skull and says she has never inappropriately removed a patient's ovaries.
"None of the allegations in any of the lawsuits have been proven and I am confident, if they are ever actually pursued by the lawyers, that they will be dismissed," she wrote in an email.
The lawsuits and complaints are being pursued.
